Biotechnology is a tool that allows us to select a single gene of a desired trait and incorporate it into the plant cells, and grow plants with the desired trait. Agricultural biotechnology offers both a challenge and opportunity to involve the scientific tools and techniques of genetic engineering, tissue culture, molecular diagnostics, vaccines, etc., to modify and improve the growth of plants, animals and microorganisms.
Crop Biotechnology: Crop biotechnology is the process of exporting of the desired trait from a particular species of Crop to an entirely different species. These transgene crops possess desirable characteristics as per our requirement and these crops have a high resistance towards diseases and pests.
Genetically Modified Crops: The Genetically Modified Crops refer to the transfer of genes between two plants to give a new offspring that have desired traits using a series of laboratory techniques for cloning genes, splicing the DNA segments together, and exporting the genes into cells. All these techniques are collectively known as Recombinant DNA technology.
Seed Technology: The methods through which the genetic and physical characteristics and properties of seeds could be improved are known as Seed Technology. It encompasses a broad range of science, i.e., breeding, agronomy, physiology, pathology, entomology, microbiology and engineering.
