Dr. Emilia Severin is professor on Human Genetics with the” Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Bucharest, Romania) for more than 30 years, enjoying an excellent reputation in the academic environment for her contribution to medical genetics education for students in Dentistry. She is a prominent expert in Genetics Dentistry in Romania being the authors of the Genetics in Dentistry curriculum. Recently she has developed an online page for remote learning for dental students. Presently she is a PhD mentor at the said university.

Professor Severin has contributions of great influence in several organizations and areas, such as the Romanian National Alliance for Rare Diseases (RONARD), European Union Committee of Experts in Rare Diseases (EUCERD), Medical Genetics Commission of the Romanian Ministry of Health, Romanian National Council for Rare Diseases, where she serves as vice-president. As a senior member of RONARD she is the co-author of the Romanian National Plan for Rare Diseases as a part of the Romanian National Health Strategy. As a member of EUCERD she was involved in the preparation of the Recommendation on cross border genetic testing of rare diseases in the EU. She is one of the major public promoters of the establishment of the genetic
centers' network in Romania as well; the achievement of this project is very much to her credit.

As an author of scientific writings, she has written several books on human genetics many of which are dedicated to academic education. One outstanding example is the impressive monography” Genetics of Dental Anomalies”, which is an unparalleled contribution to Romanian science in this field. At the same time, she is a contributor with two chapters at the scientific treaty” Medical Genetics”, edited together with other colleagues. This book is used in all medical universities of Romania.

She is a member of prestigious scientific societies and professional organizations such as the American Society of Human Genetics and the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics.
