Cryoablation

Cryoablation is another type of technique to damage the cancer tissues or cells by exposing them to extreme cold conditions. Thermally conductive fluids are passed through the hallow needles called as cryoprobes are used to reduce the temperature and maintain and by placing them next to the tumour cells and surrounding tissues. This technique is most used in the cancer types like kidney cancer, lung cancer, liver cancer, prostate cancer where they show the presence of solid tumours. Interventional radiologist performs the cryoablation percutaneously. This therapy is considered a big boon in the case brachytherapy while treating the breast cancer. From the cryoablation there emerged one more important technique in the treatment of cancer which is the combination of cryotherapy and immunotherapy called as the cryoimmuno therapy. While in some cases of cryoablation in the treatment of renal cell carcinoma the cryo-radio frequency method is used.
